Is Trader Joe’s Publicly Traded?

No. Trader Joe’s is not publicly traded. A company only gets a ticker symbol when it lists shares on an exchange such as the NYSE or Nasdaq, and Trader Joe’s has never listed.

Trader Joe’s has been privately owned since Theo Albrecht bought it in 1979. That means no public shares, no stock price and no quarterly earnings reports. Trader Joe’s does not have to publish its revenue, so any Trader Joe’s revenue figure you see online is an outside estimate.

If a website shows a “Trader Joe’s stock price,” it is either wrong or showing a different company.

Who Owns Trader Joe’s? Aldi Nord, Not the Aldi Stores in the US

Trader Joe’s is owned by the family of Theo Albrecht, one of the two brothers who founded Aldi. Theo Albrecht’s side of the business is Aldi Nord. The Aldi stores most Americans shop at belong to the other side, Aldi Süd, which traces back to his brother Karl.

The Albrecht brothers split Aldi into two groups in 1960. The two have been financially and legally separate in Germany since 1966, according to Wikipedia’s Aldi entry. The US is the one market where both sides operate: Aldi Süd runs the Aldi stores, and the Aldi Nord side owns Trader Joe’s.

So “Aldi owns Trader Joe’s” is only half right. Same family name, different company from the Aldi near you. Neither company is public, so neither one gives you a way to buy shares. The Aldi side is covered in why Aldi has no stock symbol.

Can You Buy Trader Joe’s Stock Before an IPO?

No. There is no Trader Joe’s IPO on file. A search of SEC EDGAR on 26 September 2026 found no S-1 registration, which is the form a US company files before it lists shares.

Some pre-IPO marketplaces create pages for well-known private companies. A page existing does not mean shares are for sale. Trader Joe’s owners have not offered shares to the public.

Will Trader Joe’s Ever Go Public?

Nobody outside the company can say. Trader Joe’s has not announced any plan to list, and the Albrecht family has kept both Aldi groups private for decades. Until an S-1 filing shows up on SEC EDGAR, any Trader Joe’s IPO talk is just rumor.
